What is the aftercare for a tooth extraction?
Before any dental extraction, our team takes the time to explain the process and answer your questions. We will also review the aftercare for a tooth extraction. After a tooth extraction, it’s crucial to follow aftercare instructions. Typically, this involves biting down on a gauze pad to reduce bleeding and promote blood clot formation. You may need to apply ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort. It’s important to avoid vigorous rinsing, drinking through a straw, smoking, or consuming hard or hot foods for a few days to aid in proper healing.
How long is the healing process after a tooth extraction?
The healing process after a tooth extraction typically takes about 1 to 2 weeks. During the first few days, you may experience some discomfort, swelling, and minor bleeding, which gradually subsides. The extraction site, also known as a socket, will form a blood clot and begin to heal. It is essential to keep the blood clot in the socket. Over the following weeks, new bone and gum tissue will grow to fill the empty socket. If you experience any issues during healing, like an empty socket, please contact our office.
